Love Loves Love

It was the simplest moment.

Our Cat Mali demanded her breakfast at 6:00 am.  I got out of bed and amidst a chorus of meows I fed her.  Shortly thereafter, she demanded “second breakfast.”   As I spooned more cat food into her bowl, I patted the base of her tail saying “You’re a good kitty.”  She purred and gave me “elevator butt,” a term I learned from a Cat Haiku.

You must scratch me there!
Yes, above my tail!
Behold, elevator butt.

In that moment my kitchen became a shrine.  Reality showed itself.  Life became love.

I couldn’t discern who or what inspired this love – was it God, Mali, me?  Was it the elevator butt?   I just felt a profound love that is sometimes hidden but always present.

In the spirit of omnipresent love, I began to see the world differently.

I feasted on the trumpet vines beyond the kitchen window generously offering themselves to the hummingbirds and bees.  I felt warm sunlight coaxing creation.  I imagined our compost bin, filled with red worms and food scraps, creating magical soil.  I anticipated getting in my car, turning my key and being loved by the science of ignition and momentum.

Love was loving love.  Love as subject, action, and object.

It was one of the truest moments I’ve ever experienced.

I want to stay in that place of “elevator consciousness” always.

Sometimes I remember.  Fed by grace, I see the whole world as love loving love.  When I see it it’s true.  When I don’t see it, it’s still true.  Love is always loving love.

Where do you experience love loving love?

I love the mantra: Love is always loving love. It is so simple and so true. What else is there?
